The Art Behind Every Bean
From Farm to Cup: Our Commitment to Quality
At Pura Vida Coffee, each cup is a testament to the dedication and expertise of Costa Rican farmers. Every bean goes through a meticulous process designed to bring out the unique flavors that Tarrazú and Poás are famous for. Here’s how we turn raw coffee cherries into the exquisite coffee you love.
Key Processes
Geisha Semi-Washed
The Geisha Semi-Washed process combines the unique characteristics of the prized Geisha coffee varietal with a carefully controlled semi-washed (pulped natural) method. This approach enhances the coffee’s inherent complexity, producing a cup with vibrant acidity, a smooth body, and delicate sweetness.
Known for its unique floral aroma and complex flavor profile, Geisha is one of the most sought-after coffee varieties worldwide.
- Processing Method: In the Semi-Washed (Pulped Natural), cherries are de-pulped to remove most of the fruit but leave a thin layer of mucilage on the beans. Beans are then sun-dried with the remaining mucilage, imparting sweetness and enhancing the body of the coffee. Controlled fermentation minimizes unwanted defects while allowing the Geisha’s distinct flavors to shine
- Perfect For: The Geisha Semi-Washed is a rare and premium coffee with a smooth, honey-like sweetness and floral flavors like jasmine and orange blossom. It’s made using a special process that keeps some of the coffee fruit on the beans, giving it a silky texture and vibrant taste. Perfect for anyone looking to try something truly unique and delicious!
- Flavors: Floral notes with hints of jasmine and orange blossom.Sweet cocoa, honey-like sweetness, and subtle tropical fruit acidity.
Honey Process
The honey process leaves some of the fruit’s sticky mucilage on the beans during drying, creating a caramelization effect. This results in a sweeter coffee with a rich body.
- Perfect For: Coffee lovers who enjoy natural sweetness and complexity.
- Flavors: Primarily honey, caramel and berries and marked sweetness along with chocolatey notes, indisputable characteristics in our Tarrazú region.
Natural Process (Dry Process)
- Perfect For: Adventurous drinkers who enjoy bold, unique flavor profiles.
-
Flavors: Mainly strawberry, blueberry, mango and tropical fruits, with good
body and acidity.
Anaerobic Fermentation Process
- Perfect For: Specialty coffee enthusiasts who seek rare, exotic profiles.
- Flavor: Wine, tropical fruits, and spice.
Why These Processes Matter?
Each processing method influences the final flavor profile of the coffee. Whether you prefer the spiciness of an anaerobic coffee, the sweetness of honey process, or the fruitiness of natural process, Pura Vida Coffee ensures a variety of options to suit your taste.
